Weekend over. Daily visit resumed, girls all working or at uni. So I'm afraid Colin had to put up with my chat. I arrived to find Colin on good form. 22 out of 24 hours off vent. The consultant has decided to stitch Colin's pressure sore. It has decreased in size immensely in the last few weeks, but as always it is the last piece in the jigsaw, and as such, the greatest stumbling block.
So the plan is to stitch this week. The recovery time is approx. 3 or 4 week, and then hope upon hope, we will get him up. (Braehead shopping centre, here we come).
Message for Gaelle and all the others in the ICU Western General. You are a very important role in the story, and your parts are guaranteed, so start looking for your Oscars frock!

Amazing news, onwards and upwards. Braehead shopping centre in the lead up to Christmas or even the January sales might cause a relapse! Love to you all Amanda. PS This is my second attempt to post this, I seem to be getting worse at it and not better!
ReplyDeleteHi Colin, terribly sorry for not posting a comment on your blog, however we have been constantly updated by Gillian on your progress over the past weeks.
ReplyDeleteGlad to learn that you will hopefully be off the ventilator for good in the near future and also glad to learn of the movements in your fingers.
Rest assured that I have contacted Gerry Rees and Trevor Davis re your accident and current condition and they like me send you all our best wishes for the future.
All the best for now, regards Trevor Whayman (Kodak)
Hi Colin and Charlotte
ReplyDeleteGaelle told me about your blog and I have been following every tiny step.
It is absolutely amazing that you are almost off the vent completely and have a voice.
I hope you have had all your questions answered from your early days when we desperately tried to lip read what you wanted to know. I have to say you were very good with your non-verbal communication and I remember your Roger Moore eyebrow very well!!
I was party to the breaking bad news conversations (plural) while you were in ICU at the Western and I cannot wait to tell the Consultant who was looking after you that you have surpassed all his expectations with bells on...just brilliant!
Charlotte you sound exhausted but coping......told you so!! I cannot believe you are working, visiting Colin and have a clean kitchen floor!!
Although nosey Auntie Helen ( she named herself) did tell me what an amazing person you are. She used to phone and enquire about Colin then chat about all the things you have done for her. Oh the stories, all good of course.
I only met you both for a short time in the most sad and cruel of circumstances but your love and commitment to each other still shone even in those awful early days. You are truly both amazing.
I will be following your recovery and promise to start looking for an Oscar's dress asap, any excuse not to wear scrubs!!
Regards
Karen McSorley
